BMW reveals eco features of new X1 model

BMWX1Orange_thumb The BMW X1 (pictured) is set to debut in the USA during the autumn after enjoying global success with 275,000 units sold to date. When it arrives in America however, it will take on its greenest guise to date.

Its arrival coincides with an update that includes the introduction of BMW EfficientDynamics technologies including: brake energy regeneration; auto start/stop; and ECO Pro mode.

There are a host of new technologies aimed at reducing fuel consumption including: an ECO Pro mode that offers targeted adjustments to accelerator mapping and the characteristics of its automatic transmission. A special display also helps the motorist to drive in a more economical manner; while an auto start-stop function is included in the BMW X1 sDrive28i and the xDrive28i models.

In addition, the aforementioned models will include a 2.0litre TwinPower turbo four-cylinder engine with maximum power of 240hp at 5,000rpm with a maximum torque of 353Nm developed at 1,2500rpm that remains constant to 4,800rpm.

Emission reductions are further assisted by the inclusion of VALVETRONIC variable valve timing and Double-Vanos variable camshaft timing. Efficiency is boosted by a high precision direct injection system with fuel injected close to the spark plug and achieving a maximum injection pressure of 200bar.

According to preliminary estimates, the X1 sDrive28i achieves 27mpg combined; while the xDrive28i boasts 25mpg combined.

In Europe meanwhile, the BMW X1 will come with a range of advanced diesel engines with every rear-wheel X1 emitting fewer than 130g/km of CO2.
