Nissan and the GT-R Return to the 24 Hours of Nurburgring

2013-Nissan-GT-R-nurburgring The 2013 Nissan GT-R and the Nurburgring have long been closely linked, and Nissan’s video shows that the partnership will get closer. For the second year in a row, the Nissan GT-R will participate in the 24 Hours of Nurburgring race, and we’ve got video of the car preparing for the big event.

The Nissan GT-R has long battled with pricier supercars on the Nurburgring, posting comparable times on the Nordschleife to cars like the Ferrari Enzo and Pagani Zonda. Last year, Nissan went one step further by campaigning a nearly-stock GT-R in the 24 Hours of Nurburgring race, scoring a win in the SP 8T class. It’s coming back in 2012, and Nissan’s hoping for another victory.

The racing Nissan GT-R is closely based on the Club Track edition Nissan GT-R, and uses the same engine, and transmission as the road car. The suspension will receive mild revision, while the remainder of the car gains minor aerodynamic tweaks, wider wheels and tires, stronger brakes, and a race-spec gas tank. Other than that, it’s the same 530-horsepower, all-wheel drive super coupe we’ve come to know and love.

The eleven-minute video features Nissan GT-R Program Director Kazutoshi Mizuno, racing driver Michael Krumm, and test driver Toshio Suzuki talking about the R35 racecar. Their takeaways were all very similar: the car is very, very fast.
