“This will be an entirely new model,” Aston Martin CEO Dr. Ulrich Bez told Auto Express. “We have to do something remarkable to mark our centenary. It won’t be a DB9 with a Centenary Edition badge and it won’t be a limited edition like the One-77 supercar.”
The report goes on to suggest that the unique car will be a version of the current DBS coupe (pictured) with its 5.9-liter V-12 engine pumped up to 550 hp, compared to 510 hp in the standard model. Auto Express suggests the car could be unveiled as early as this summer.
An Aston Martin spokesman in the U.S. said that the centenary model would be a “mainstream” car that is neither as extreme as the One-77 supercar or Cygnet city car, but perhaps more exciting than simply a car with a unique badge. We can probably expect to see the centenary model in early 2013, and it will be available in the U.S. market. Aston Martin is planning numerous events to celebrate the birthday throughout 2013.
Aston Martin has previously sold two special versions of the DBS: the UB-2010, which launched at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show; and the Carbon Black Edition — which subsequently became simply the Carbon Edition when it was made available in colors other than black.
